A former staffer for an affiliate of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now testified today that the organization was provided a “donor list” from the presidential campaign of Barack Obama in late 2007 for fundraising efforts.
Anita Moncrief, a former Washington, D.C. staffer for Project Vote, which she described as a sister organization of ACORN, said her supervisor told her the list of campaign contributors came from the Obama campaign. Moncrief said she has a copy of a “development plan” that outlines how Obama contributors who had “maxed out” under federal contribution limits would be targeted to give to Project Vote, and that it was her job to identify such contributors.
So… Obama claims to have “no ties” to ACORN, and yet we find out that Obama used to work for them, has spoken at ACORN meetings, represented them as an attorney in two court cases, paid them $830,000 for get out the vote projects… AND is providing them with potential donor lists?
To quote Shakespeare, “Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.”

Considering that donor lists are often considered the “most valuable asset” to a campaign (for future elections and also political leverage over those who want access to it), I would say that Obama might be stretching the truth beyond any recognition to claim him and his campaign have no ties to ACORN.
Over the years I’ve come to expect that politicians are going to ‘shade the truth’ somewhat, and that some are going to do it more than others.
But there’s a slight difference between shading the truth and outright deception. I think Obama feels (as do the higher-ups in the DNC) that ANYTHING is justifiable now. It doesn’t matter how much trouble they get into – six months from now the electorate’s going to have forgotten about the fraudulent voter registrations, the bogus donations, the suppression by the press of anything negative about Obama – in six months (if they win) it’s all going to be buried.
If they don’t win, figure they’re going to spend the next 6 months denying anything was ever wrong in the first place and watch the press ‘selectively’ report their words until it’s taken as truth that the DNC did nothing out of the norm…
