ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) – Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin on Saturday accused Democrat Barack Obama of “palling around with terrorists” because of his association with a former 1960s radical, stepping up the campaign’s effort to portray Obama as unacceptable to American voters.
Palin’s reference was to Bill Ayers, one of the founders of the group the Weather Underground. Its members took credit for bombings, including nonfatal explosions at the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol, during the tumultuous Vietnam War era four decades ago. Obama, who was a child when the group was active, served on a charity board with Ayers several years ago and has denounced his radical views and activities.
The Republican campaign, falling behind Obama in polls, plans to make attacks on Obama’s character a centerpiece of presidential candidate John McCain’s message with a month remaining before Election Day.
Palin told a group of donors at a private airport, “Our opponent … is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect, imperfect enough, that he’s palling around with terrorists who would target their own country.” She also said, “This is not a man who sees America as you see America and as I see America.”
Palin, Alaska’s governor, said that donors on a greeting line had encouraged her and McCain to get tougher on Obama. She said an aide then advised her, “Sarah, the gloves are off, the heels are on, go get to them.”

That is the best news I’ve heard all day…next to O.J. getting locked up forever.
They can pull this off, if enough viewers see who Obummer’s true friends are.
Typical Palin showing her ignorance again. She must have read this in one of the magazines/newspapers she can’t remember the names of. She needs to take her “Bridge to No Where” all the way to the end.
Is this the only the republicans can (hopefully not) win an election, doing something John McCain said he would not do. DIRTY POLITICS.
I don’t know if it’s fair for Palin to attack Obama.
It’s okay for us to suggest that her husband is raping her children, and okay for us to point out that because she only has a little more experience than Obama, maybe she’s not fit for national office.
But to attack Obama’s association with people who scream “g*d d*amn” america, and “i wish we’d blown more of it up”, and “we are a embarrassment overseas”… I mean, who does she think wants to lose the war? Who does she think talks america down in front of the rest of the world?
Everyone knows that BUSH created terrorism in the world, and those who think america was attacked before he came to office are just out of touch.
So, it’s okay for us to attack PALIN, but she better not try anything, or we will go complain to PUTIN or CHAVEZ, or KIM-BOY-ILL, or AUCH-MADDEN-JIHAD.
What makes her think we’re willing to sit down with her and listen to her nonsense, without some sort of understanding up front of what’s fair?
Sarah Palin is an abomination, she is an embarrassment to the Republican party all the those holy then thou religious groups and woman. After hearing Hilary Clington and Pelosi, this woman is not in the same league regarding intellect it scares me that John McCain made such a poor choice.
The media keeps pumping her but around that kitchen table people are jumping off that McCain band wagon.
I had several people over for dinner that were replublicans, they’re bailing and learning more about Obama one said its just too humiliating to flip the McCain Switch.
It’s to bad the Media is bias and has’t talked about Obama’s realtionships with terrorists sooner. If someone would look into where he is getting some of his donations that would find HAMAS and other terrorists. Watch Hannity Sunday night if you want to learn. Everyone can blame Bush, but it all started when Clinton was in office. He didn’t get Binladen when he had the chance, also approved the bill to let poor people get loans they should never have had. Don’t forget for the last 2 year we have had a Democratic controlled Congress and they did nothing to help the economy. Wake up people, there is only one choice for President, McCain/ Palin. Don’t have the Media brainwash you!!!!!!
I guess using Obamas warped sense of Patriotism and what it means to be a proud American, oh thats right he isn’t proud!!!
if in 30 years it would be perfectly acceptable for one of our Presidential nominees to say, ” I only served on a couple of boards with Bin Ladin” A terrorist is a terrorist. I think we all know Ayers is saying he wished he came up with the 911 plan first.
I was at a Palin rally today in Carson, CA. Sarah mentioned the NYT article here too and the Obama/Ayers connection! I was so happy she talked about it! Finallly!!!!!!
This was more then a casual relationship. Can not be dismissed as something that happened when he was an 8 year old boy. Ayers held a fund raiser meeting at his home on his first run for political office. He served on a board with Ayers for years. There is more and it will continue to come out. This is just not an ultra left wing thing, but it goes to a very radical agenda.
What is wrong with our country? Can we not see what
serious danger we’re putting ourselves in with this Palin maddness. Do we really want this inexperienced
sharp tongued woman to run our country if God forbid
Mc Cain falls ill or worst. She only attacks Obama and what he ‘s not doing, but she can’t give specific answers as to what McCain is going to do! Dirty politics are not needed. We need to hear direct and specific plans for our country and our future. We’ve lost 8 years. We can’t afford 4 more with McCain &Palin. Wake America before it’s too late!!!
Earline -
Ask McCain what he’s going to do. You know the thing I don’t get? Palin’s got more experience than OBAMA, yet she doesn’t have enough to suit the likes of you.
Guess that D behind the name denotes ‘Divine’, eh?
What REALLY worries me is that people like you believe all someone needs to do is be a failed community organizer (you do know that’s why he quit, right? He wasn’t making any difference) and a failed state senator (Google up Grove Parc and his involvement – and ask yourself if you want to see the REST of the country turned into a Grove Parc) and a first term absentee senator (really, 200 days in office and then he starts running?) and suddenly he’s WONDERFUL!
If he had an R behind his name, there’s no way in hell he’d be where he is.
When faced with two choices you don’t like, it’s pretty easy to choose the least worst of the two by our criteria. I believe that Obama would be a catastrophe for the country, and would destroy the Democratic party through his complete and demonstrable executive incompetence.
I will not vote for that. I may not like McCain – but the alternative is FAR worse.
One last thing, ‘Earline’ and ‘Reven’ and the like -
IF this country has a collective brain fart and Obama does win – I’ll be sincerely hoping he’ll be able to do a hell of a lot more than I believe he’s capable of, looking at his background. And I won’t be constantly carping (well, not much) when he fumbles – because I expect EVERY president to fumble some issues and do well on others.
Would you be able to do that for McCain? Or is he going to have to be a stellar performer for you to give him a ‘barely passable’ mark, and will you be doing everything you can to undercut his support for the next 4 years?
The country will survive the Presidency of either. But there’s a hell of a difference between surviving and prospering. I don’t see bleeding the country through higher taxes as a way to prosper – but we’ll survive it. The question is – will the Democrats, even with the complicity of the media? If Obama gets elected, there won’t be any way he can blame HIS failed policies on the Republicans – and frankly, he doesn’t have much that’ll succeed.
Reven,
Please save the Republicans For Obama fairy tales for someone else.
The Republicans love Palin like they love Reagan. I haven’t seen anything like it since 1983-4.
Yes Texas, as I said, I WAS AT the rally in Carson California today and the crowd was wild about Sarah!!! I waited in line for hours and had a chance to talk to a lot of people there and let me tell you, they are THRILLED with the choice of Sarah. They are energized.
