Heather Malik From CBC and The GuardianUK – Most Offensive Ever?

Holy crap…  I don’t even know what to say about this one…  so I will let Ms. Maliks words speak for themselves…

CBC

I assume John McCain chose Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential partner in a fit of pique because the Republican money men refused to let him have the stuffed male shirt he really wanted. She added nothing to the ticket that the Republicans didn’t already have sewn up, the white trash vote, the demographic that sullies America’s name inside and outside its borders yet has such a curious appeal for the right.

~SNIP~

It’s possible that Republican men, sexual inadequates that they are, really believe that women will vote for a woman just because she’s a woman. They’re unfamiliar with our true natures. Do they think vaginas call out to each other in the jungle night? I mean, I know men have their secret meetings at which they pledge to do manly things, like being irresponsible with their semen and postponing household repairs with glue and used matches. Guys will be guys, obviously.

~SNIP~

Palin has a toned-down version of the porn actress look favoured by this decade’s woman, the overtreated hair, puffy lips and permanently alarmed expression. Bristol has what is known in Britain as the look of the teen mum, the “pramface.” Husband Todd looks like a roughneck; Track, heading off to Iraq, appears terrified. They claim to be family obsessed while being studiously terrible at parenting. What normal father would want Levi “I’m a fuckin’ redneck” Johnson prodding his daughter?

I…  uhhh…

OH.

MY.

GOD.

.

I am at a total loss…  WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE!!!!

Add this to the SC chair’s comments and all the other vicious slander…  not the way to win votes.

Once again…  it’s about class…  and this is just classless.

  2. OMG… This is so disturbing on all sides. So much for women’s rights, so much for a conservatives womans rights. I am disgusted by her comments. She needs to be fired.

  3. I was wondering yesterdat when we’d be hearing something about Palin being “trailer trash” or something like that.

Well, you found it! Thanks…I guess!! LOL!

  4. Unfortunately, Ms. Malik’s extreme anti-woman stance doesn’t surprise me.

Ever since the strike and lockout in 2005 and subsequent deep budget cuts, CBC seems to have followed American public broadcasting down the “if your funds have been cut, attack women” mode.

They used to be a very valuable antidote both to the U.S. media’s unwillingness to report actual news and to its sexism. Less and less so on the former, not at all anymore on the latter.

  5. Fascist is as Fascist does…Commissar Donna Brazeal said the
” NEW ” Democratic party doesn’t need folks like me….chuckle…So Barky can win without me ! I’ll be voting GOP for the first time since I registered in 1978….30 years a voting democrat. The party built by FDR has been overtaken by Fascists…
    imho…a vote for McCain/Palin 08 is a vote for Clinton/2012.

  6. That is sooooo funny. It “drips” of desperation and fear that
their almighty OBAMESSIAH is a false prophet….or at the very
least…. ” yet another empty suit”. The have nothing but the “old” factor on McCain, and very ,VERY little dirt to even find on
sweet Sarah. She’s the woman that can even beat him at his
    own game…..basketball.

Go American Hero and The Barracuda !

  7. “What normal father would want Levi “I’m a fuckin’ redneck” Johnson prodding his daughter”

You know, this kind of language just pisses me off. It’s one thing to disagree with a persons positions, lifestyle, life choices, politics or whatever, but to choose to express yourself about it in the most demeaning manner possible is…I don’t even know what. I’m speechless, a position in which I rarely find myself (as my husband will attest).

I think there’s a lot to be said about being able to judge a person by the followers they attract. The last couple of weeks, reading the PUMA blogs, has improved my opinion of HRC, based soley on the reasoning and reasonableness behind the posts and comments. And I say that as a lifelong Republican – although I did once vote for a Democrat for state office ;o).

On the other hand, my opinion of BHO has gone down, possibly one of the greatest understatements of all time.

  8. Paula,

Thanks so much for the note. It is amazing what the DNC and the media has painted us to be. We are not crazy. We are not nuts. We are not uneducated. And we are not closet right wingers.

Many of us have been good Democrats for decades and many have never voted for a Republican in their whole life. In addition, most of our membership is comprised of people that have been extremely active in the party. We are the ones that man the phones, canvas neighborhoods, do the bake sales, fundraising and whatever else is needed, and yet the party has decided to kick out and abuse life long and good Democrats.

We feel abused and betrayed by our own people, and I cannot tell you how badly these people are hurting.

What they have done to their own base is wrong and we will not stand for it.

I want nothing to do with the sorts of people that would do what they did, treat a highly respected Democrat and woman the way they did, or treat Ms. Palin with the hate and vitriol they have.

    It’s disgusting.

  9. Texas, it is frustrating, isn’t it, to be typecast as something you’re not.

The media’s disgraceful treatment of Sarah Palin is merely an extension of their treatment of anyone who doesn’t agree with their ideology, magnified for good measure because – I don’t know why. Who can understand the motives of a rabid dog?

  10. What is wrong with these WOMEN haters? Alot of them are women!!! I a male am very hurt that they don’t even RESPECT their own gender!!!! I have always wondered why there is’nt a split ticket anyway!!! If a woman does not get the nod this time , they may never have the chance since the EVER-DOMINATING MEN will allways have this as ammo!!! She was doing a promo spot (I think) for KENTUCY FRIED CHICKEN , Well lets all send our THOUGHTS to KFC ( stop buying chicken folks) BOYCOTT KFC , maybe they can reason with this PATHETIC WORM OF A WOMAN!!!!!!

  14. I have never been so insulted as a woman in my life during the campaign season. I actually had someone ask me what political party affiliation I have and just stood there silently, ashamed and embarrassed to say “Democrat” and I sure as heck wouldn’t admit the “lifelong Dem” reality. I ended up saying I was an Independent because I guess the DNC and Obama have forced me to that point. I don’t recognize the Democratic Pary and its biased media partners. The media has stooped to an all time low with the most vilest, hateful comments I’ve ever heard. Some of these people have disgraced themselves for life.

  15. I can’t even read that Washington Post article. Tripe like that makes my blood boil.

You know, I’m an Evangelical Christian and here’s the thing about Evangelical Christianity and this is something that all ECs know…you can’t force your religion on anybody. Because EC isn’t about outward practice, it’s about inner change. It’s true that ECs evangelize – hence the name ;o) – but it’s more about giving people the opportunity to know and understand something that’s been meaningful in their lives.

So shoot me if I want to tell people about something that I think might enrich their lives; it’s not like I’m going to burn them at the stake or make fun of them or write nasty newspaper editorials about them if they reject it.

FYI, Pamela Anderson has spoken out against KFC and its treatment of chickens, so please don’t hold her against them.

  16. I am aghast at this characterization of Sarah as a porn star. It seems that nothing is off limits these days. Making a comment like that about a successful working mother with a newborn is heinous. These folks have no decency at all. If anyone is trash it is the so-called human being that made those awful comments. An Obama supporter no doubt.

    Holy Shit!

  17. So what about PALIN”s statements ? All that is acceptable ? Trying to ban books from a library, shoot wolves from a plane and offer US $ 150 for it, denying global warming etc etc.. all that is totally fine *because she is a woman* ?

Are those the *issues* (yes I know it’s difficult to talk about issues if all you want is a woman in the white house) you simply want to simply ?

  18. please think,

if you actually paid attention… the ban books think has been debunked, the wolves population control, which is tightly monitored, is FOR the environment because they were driving down the populations of species such as moose and the problem was getting exponentially worse, and the global warming stuff… god, will you people never stop oversimplifying the issues and bending the truth…

and i am certainly not a person that has issues with sexism. i personally could care less that she is a woman. i do think its time for equality, but i would be just as hard on her or as supportive of her if she were a man.

unfortunately, you are apparently someone that does have issues with gender because the first thing you think is that I am voting for her because she is a woman… and what would lead you to believe that? my beliefs or your own projections?

In addidtion, those statements are WHOLLY different than what the author of this article wrote… if you don’t see the difference…

    take your own advice… think.

  19. I live in the Hill Country & I’m appalled by THIS website & the low IQ level of the people posting on it. Maybe it’s a case of “hit dog hollers” when they hear the (accurate) description of the Palins. 1000s of people in Alaska have termed Wasilla & its residents “wasillabillies”, & claim embarrassment over the whole “trailer trashiness” of the area…..& the blood-thirsty, Old Testament-thumpin (I am a life-long Methodist, btw), money-grubbing, classless clan of Palins are a prime example of that.

Palin does NOT speak for women. (& I am a 63yo woman, btw.) She opposes a woman’s right to choose, demanded that rape victims pay for rape kits, & believes that women should be submissive to men in all things—-except for her in her well-documented unbridled ambition for power & fame.

If you don’t realize that Palin is bone-chillingly scary as a VP (& potential POTUS), if you think that Palin will be less than the most hideous person ever to get near the WH, or worse, if you think she’ll actually further women’s causes, you’re oversimplifying every issue surrounding this mess to the consistency of “Obama Waffles”—-> a lovely little Gop groupies’ product sold at the “Values Voters Conference” [sic] promoting racism, jingoism, & hate that’d curdle milk.

  20. Ms. Cunningham.

If as a woman and as a person you are not appalled at the attacks on Palin, regardless of her policies, then I am sorry, it is not my readers or myself that has the IQ problem.

You can disagree with her on the issues, but don’t denigrate her as a person or as a human being.

I have never once attacked Obama on the basis of his race or his heritage as I think that is not only incredibly tacky, but wrong at a base level.

The same should go for Palin.

In addition, Palin may not speak for SOME women, but she certainly speaks for MANY women. While I agree that the rape kit thing is less than great, the right to choose is a personal belief she has and I have seen no evidence that she intends to inject her religious beliefs into public policy. She has yet to do it on a variety of other issues that she could have clearly made proposals on.

I also disagree with you on the point that she thinks women should be subservient to men. She has been quoted more than once as saying that women can do whatever they want and manage as well or better than an equally qualifed man, and that if anyone disagreed she would lead that “neandertal back to their cave.”

And I am sorry, the assertion that the Obama Waffles have a racist message is patently ridiculous and only serves to denigrate the real problems with racism.

    Have a good day.

  21. I have to admit that after reading some of your other posts I’m a bit less appalled at your website. I found some of your commentary to be at least fairly objective. However, I still found your posters’ comments to be reactionary, less than intelligent, & even simple-minded. Sounds like they’ve never left their small town hillcountry backyards, either mentally or physically.

It isn’t “denigrating” to point out what Sarah Palin obviously is—& that is NOT someone who’s fit to represent the US in the 2nd highest office in the free world, & it’s ludicrous to think otherwise. In fact, it’s fairly insane. And dangerous. Rather than risk your thinking I’m “denigrating” her again, I’ll leave it at that. But I do agree w/ Bill Maher who said that you “can’t describe her accurately” w/out being considered sexist or “denigrating.”

As to the “Obama Waffles”, au contraire, but they are blatantly racist & offensive:
“Activists at a conservative political forum snapped up boxes of waffle mix depicting Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama as a racial stereotype on its front and wearing Arab-like headdress on its top flap.

Values Voter Summit organizers cut off sales of Obama Waffles boxes on Saturday, saying they had not realized the boxes displayed “offensive material.” The summit and the exhibit hall where the boxes were sold had been open since Thursday afternoon.

The box was meant as political satire, said Mark Whitlock and Bob DeMoss, two writers from Franklin, Tenn., who created the mix. They sold it for $10 a box from a rented booth at the summit sponsored by the lobbying arm of the Family Research Council.

David Nammo, executive director of the lobbying group FRC Action, said summit organizers were told the boxes were a parody of Obama’s policy positions but had not examined them closely.

While Obama Waffles takes aim at Obama’s politics by poking fun at his public remarks and positions on issues, it also plays off the old image of the pancake-mix icon Aunt Jemima, which has been widely criticized as a demeaning stereotype. Obama is portrayed with popping eyes and big, thick lips as he stares at a plate of waffles and smiles broadly.

Placing Obama in Arab-like headdress recalls the false rumor that he is a follower of Islam, though he is actually a Christian.

On the back of the box, Obama is depicted in stereotypical Mexican dress, including a sombrero, above a recipe for “Open Border Fiesta Waffles” that says it can serve “4 or more illegal aliens.” The recipe includes a tip: “While waiting for these zesty treats to invade your home, why not learn a foreign language?”

The item also takes shots at 2004 Democratic nominee John Kerry, Obama’s wife, Michelle, and Obama’s former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.” http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080913/ap_on_el_pr/obama_waffles

If even the radical religious rightwingnut Family Research Council find them “racist & offensive”, they’re Racist & Offensive. And if you don’t think so, you should probly examine your own ideas of what’s Racist & Offensive.

You are also mistaken in believing that Palin isn’t anti-women’s rights in regard to all women other than herself & her cohorts. (She is, after all, forcing her daughter to marry the hockey stick who knocked her up…..the kid who’s surely gonna make out like a bandit w/ the deal he made w/ the Palins to marry the poor girl.) Palin is subservient to the patriarchal Old Testament men who give her her marching orders, from her wacko ministers to ol John McCain & her new neocon instructors…….whose words do you think she learned to parrot in the Charley Gibson interview?

She’s nothing more than a gimmicky pawn, cynically selected by the Rovian Gops & neocons (like Bill Kristol) who foisted her on McCain in hopes of winning the election w/ the votes of the bumble-headed Christian-ist Conservatives & redstate rednecks who think she’s “like them”, like just another American Idol honey.

If you think they’d've ever in a million yrs nominated a MAN w/ her record & lack of experience & elementary, backwoods politics & abilities, you’re sweetly dreaming.

Thank you for being open-minded enough to post my comments.
And you have a good day, too…..have as many as you can now, just in case your Palin/McCain get into the WhiteHouse & you rue the day you supported them.

  22. thank you for recognizing that i am a fair and open minded person and am far from reactionary.

my objection isnt just to Obama, who I think is probably less qualified to be even VP, muchless President, than Palin is to be honest (after all she is the ONLY one with any executive experience on either ticket) but also extends to the disturbing trends I have seen within the Democratic party itself.

I have been deeply involved in politics for a very long time and the DNC is hardly recognizable as the same party anymore.

i also agree that some of the commentary on here can be imflammatory and reactionary… and some would say that yours falls into that category as well, though I must say that it is well thought out.

People are angry and upset, and justifiably so. Comments are also short, so if you are not familiar with the specific issues these people are talking about or arent aware of some of the backstory, I am sure some look much worse than they are.

you and i can just agree to disagree on Palin’s stance on women’s equality… though I would encourage you to look at her record and her statements which would surely point you in another direction I think, as long as you remove the Choice issue from the equation (which i think is a small, but admittedly important, subset of women’s right… but a subset none-the less.)

as for the Gibson interview… it was edited horribly and in such a way as to make her look bad, Gibson gaffed bad on the Bush doctrine, the camera angles themselves were designed to make her look bad, and the questions were much more agressive than those asked of Obama himself.

in addition, I would disagree with you on the never nominate a man thing… John Edwards was a first term Senator with populist rhetoric galore, a “good” family guy from small town south carolina and a flashy smile. Obama himself is not even that different… they all had about the same number of years in public service… and yet she is still the only one with Executive experience.

Also… as far as her being forced on McCain, I would wholeheartedly disagree. McCains pick surprised the friggin hell out of EVERYONE including Rove himself.

I also object to you calling people in Republican states or referring to Republicans in general as “rednecks.” Living in Texas, you should know better.

The waffles thing also had a parody image of Kerry. The image is a very very common artistic genre that is extremely common… so common that one can have these portraits done at just about every carnival and amusement park in the country. It was not racist… sorry. You and I can just disagree on that one.

As for the sexism thrown at her, please admit that it has been rabid and that it exists… if not, wow… i dont even know how you rationalize that one….

    cheers.

  23. Malik said “Republican men, sexual inadequates,” HOW does SHE know? Has SHE screwed EVERY Republican Man??? This “woman” is disgusting and should be FIRED! It is exactly people like her (Obama followers) that make me MORE determined to vote for
    McCain / Palin 2008

  24. What a Hack. The woman is a disgrace to serious Journalists, everywhere. Her views are too absurd to be given a moment’s consideration. Intelligent people see her for what she really is; a pathetic, angry wannabe Journalist who was not qualified for a “real” job, and settled for writing hack pieces for a small time rag.

  25. What? No column space left to mock Down Syndrome kids? Not enough time or energy left to call the younger girls “fat” or “ugly”? Was that a rare moment of restraint or did this venomous harpie just exhaust her obviously limited intelligence and vocabulary before she could work her way down to the youngest and most innocent in the clan?

  26. Go to the mirror Heather.
    What do you see?

Please refrain from using slurs. Thank you.

  27. Absolutely astonished by this! How can you keep this “columnist” on this or any other payroll. This was the most sleezy writing to date. Even Ariana is not that bad! She needs to be fired!!!

  28. Why are the right wingers so aghast at what Heather Malik has written. She is spot on in her description of Sarah palin. If a democratic candiadte had a pregnant teenage daughetr these moralistic right wingers would have gone on and on about how horrible the democrats were and their value system was so trashy. The right wing nut jobs have referred to Michelle Obama as Obama’s baby mama and the fist jab between Michelle and Barack as a terrorist fist jab. Enough with this bellyaching about a journalist from Canada writing an opinion piece on Ms. Palin. This is tame compared to what the creatures on the right like Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter write.

  29. I hope America is aware of the importance of this vote from the world’s point of view.

After the last eight years and as a result of America electing poor leaders the world has suffered on numerous fronts.

Other nations (and more importantly America’s greatest allies) also feels the same military pain of dead soldiers (how many Americans are even aware that Australia had troops fighting in Vietnam, much less Iraq?).

The world’s economic uncertainty with people loosing their homes (our lending institutions are customers of your banks, financial institutions, etc) are tied to the last 8 years of your nations leadership. The list goes not only goes on it is scary…

As with almost every US elcetion, it becomes the single most important democratic vote that takes place in the world.

Comments like GL below. That is the same type of comment you are angered over, just from a different viewpoint.

  30. DK,

I agree with you that GL’s comment is uncalled for. And will be edited accordingly. I had not seen it.

    Thank you.

  31. Thanks Texas Hill.

DK, Watching from a far…very interested, and very nervous.

  33. One Canadian perspective:

Heather Malick does not speak for all of Canada (I’m sure she would be the first to admit that), or in fact even for a large majority of Canadians. Most Canadians would say that on this particular posting, Heather Malick went completely over the top, and that much of her attack was unfairly personal. In Canada (and I’m sure in the US), people like to think they hold themselves to a higher standard than that, at least in public.

It’s important to point out some of the basic differences in ideologies between our two “sister” nations. In Canada, our “political right” would fall most closely in line with many US Democrat policies; we tend to be pretty liberal on such things as healthcare, gun control, the death penalty, and foreign policy. Our economic policy, though, tends to be a little more conservative – you would never see in Canada the type of economic bailout that is now happening in the US (that’s if we could afford it, which we can’t) In fact, most Canadians would tell you that the $85 billion bailout of AIG in return for 80% control constitutes a form of economic socialism that wouldn’t be tolerated here.

We are intrigued by the election process in the US. First of all, the US presidential election is immensely important to us since our countries are so tied together economically and socially. What happens in the US has a direct and profound effect north of the border (and with a few exceptions this is not reciprocated). One question we all have – why does the process take so damn long? The nomination process went on for, it feels like, almost 2 years. We are going through a federal election here and the whole process is taking six weeks from start to finish.

Finally, in Canada we thirst for a vibrant, passionate leader along the lines of John Kennedy. We had one briefly in the form of Pierre Trudeau (whether he was a great Prime Minister is debatable, but man, could he rally the troops). In Canada, Obama would be a slam dunk. It wouldn’t even be close.

Of course, that’s only one Canadian’s opinion.
    Bob in BC

  34. Heather Mallick is totally laughable. Crying victim when Van Sustren calls her a pig. What a far-left liberal namby pamby. People like that can dish it out but can’t take it – you remember folks like that; incite a fight and let someone else clean up their mess. Sorry, but I’d put my money down on a gun-totin’, bible carrying whistle blower and a right hook to the left jaw on some skank-squad-leader far-left feminist fruitcake any day. What a wimp. She should go back to what she knows best- how to spend other’ people’s money and write about it! What a total waste. I hope Heather reads this- she’ll cry like a little b$%^h. Even if Palin was a porn actress, she would be -our- actress the same way Obama is the nation’s next hustler- but he’s -our- hustler and ain’t no body got no right to call him that except us! How do you like that for white trash talk Mallick! You bought it- you own up to it you pussy.

  35. And, that is, just my humble opinion.

  36. MAILIK’S BRAIN IS SO FAR UP HER SHRIVELED MENSTRUAL CYCLE, she’d have to pedal to get out. Perhaps the I.Q. of really wholesome, feminine, intuitive, heroic, human women cannot be measured in the quantity of glib, sardonic, snide, lesbianesque diatribes like hers. The fact is, Governor Palin has just driven an Alaskan iditarod through the false, dying feminism of the left and she and her cold, sexless sisterhood lay in it’s track, clawed and shredded, but unable to bleed.

    Patrick K. Darnall

  38. Dear Heather,
I don’t know of anyone who is forcing you to remain in Canada. If you are truly embarrassed to be Canadian, you can always stop having a Canadian website, the CBC can stop posting your blogs and stop paying you with Canadian tax dollars. You can always burn your OHIP card so that you no longer have your health care subsidized by Canadian tax dollars. Heather, you need to know that these dollars that you have been paid, the lifestyle which you have become accustomed to has been subsidized by what you and your blogger friend in Britain call Dirty Oil. While you may be free to say that in Quebec, the Queen of cool on Kyoto and every other cause you have hopped on, Quebec is a Have Not province. For decades it has been propped up by Have provinces. The province that has coughed up a much greater share per capita of money for the Have Not than any other province is Alberta. If we called this a contest, it’s not even close.
Now since this dirty business of Oil sands oil is being sent around to Have Not provinces like Quebec and creating so much revenue for Canadian social programs, including equalization, would you as someone who supports these programs, would you like to call people in provinces like Quebec and the Maritimes and Manitoba and as of now because of Liberal mismanagement, you can add Ontario to the list as well…Heather, would you like to call all recipients of Alberta Oil Sands wealth dirty? Heather, if you have been living off the proceeds of dirt, does that make you a dirty little…and now I am slipping and sliding into something that has been texted by Tiger Woods.
So at this point I will stop asking questions, Heather. Some day I may write a more thoughtful response to your confession that you are embarrassed to be a Canadian. In the meantime, I will be delighted to throw in 133 dollars for your application for immigration to any country that is willing to have you. If I were you Heather, I would start with Cuba and North Korea and work your way down from there. But I will be happy to throw in 133 dollars, one loony for every Canadian who has fallen in Afghanistan since our mission began there nearly eight years ago. Every one of those Canadians was proud of this country. All of them and all who came before them, fought for your right to say what you please. In honour of them, I would propose to our government that we launch a Heather Mallick in which Canadians coast to coast to coast contribute money to those Canadians too embarrassed to be called Canadian. Getting them out of the country would be the greatest social program in the history of Confederation. This chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Heather, as of today, you are the quintessential definition of weak. One very weak Canadian

  40. An unrestricted exceptional burst of hot magma provides you an entire feeling of euphoria, and is an exceptional feeling like no other.
