Not bad…..I think it would have been more effective without the use of the word “liberal” in that way. I know it’s dab of red meat for the Republican base, but McCain’s edge is his ability to appeal to PUMAs, many of whom are liberals. He can make his points without taking the risk of turning us off of him.
I’m glad they are starting to talk about how their platform is the platform of change. They need to keep it up.
In addition, McCain needs to talk about his plans for the economy using language that encourages Democrats but doesn’t turn off Republicans. Be optimistic about our economic future.
I went in to my local Republican Campaign office the other day. They weren’t surprised to see me, they said they had loads of Hillary supporters volunteering.
Infidel’s right. But the problem goes deeper, in that even liberals are referrring to Obama’s faction as “far left” or “leftist extremists,” when they’re not. They’re neocons, whose political MO is no different from Bush/Cheney’s and whose policies are inching perilously close to the current regime’s.
McCain and Palin are conservatives, true, but they’re conservatives in the libertarian Barry Goldwater mode. That distinction needs to be made, and I think made loudly and persistently.
I just got back from canvassing for the RNC. We spoke to about 20 people, some Dems, some Indies, some Republicans.
Republicans – will vote Rep all the way down the ticket
Indies – undecided, economy #1 issue
Dems – Obama, economy #1 issue
So tiny little survey as it is, economy seems to be the hot issue. Laying out the economic plan, and speaking positively and optimistically about the economy will help McCain a great deal with Indies and Dems.
I don’t think it’s particularly effective as it’s the same old argument against liberals.
Mountain Sage
this feels like a knock off of obama’s ad. I don’t think it was effective, because all it made me think was, ‘didn’t obama do this already?’ plus he made liberal sound like a bad word. how would that get him more votes?
