NOW NYS Lays It All Out There… Bravo!

NOW NYS has come out with an amazing statement on the treatment of Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party itself and they have done it while NOW National stays silent.

I could not put it more perfectly than they do, so here are their words…  and you can find the original here

Hillary’s Supporters Feel Sting of Betrayal Beyond Politics
June 5, 2008

Hillary Clinton’s supporters are hearing over and over again that it is a shame that the Senator is not making history this year. As the first woman to run as a major party nominee, we must remember that the Senator did indeed make history. She garnered more votes (eighteen million) than any other candidate in the history of the presidential primary. She enjoyed the majority of the votes from women, Latino’s, Asians, and working-class citizens. She won the swing states that would have guaranteed her the White House. Now the Democrats have a real uphill battle.

Hillary’s supporters are sad and angry about the political scam that was the Rules Committee meeting, where the party took earned delegates from Senator Clinton and gave them to Obama. Hillary’s supporters are sad and mad that the Democratic party did not stand up against sexism in the media. Hillary’s supporters are sad and mad that a qualified, intelligent woman was denied the chance to lead the most powerful country in the world, and that she was denied the chance to send a message of hope and potential greatness to women everywhere. The Democratic party will indeed suffer the consequences of its actions. Republican women who crossed over for Hillary will go back to their own party, while others will either stay home or write in their votes for Hillary. Still others will leave the party that has no respect for the women who constitute two thirds of it’s base.

In recent times, the Republicans have stood for their beliefs. Although many of us progressives fight vehemently against their platform, at least we know who the enemy is. This time the Democrats have shown their true colors and it’s high time for a party that respects the needs and rights of over half the population. Maybe Senator Clinton should start a National Women’s Party. She certainly has the base she would need to make it happen. At least that party will state its mission clearly through it’s title. The Democrats certainly did not live up to their name.

Webb Says Hell No To VP Slot.

Mr. Webb’s statement from TPM

“Last week I communicated to Senator Obama and his presidential campaign my firm intention to remain in the United States Senate, where I believe I am best equipped to serve the people of Virginia and this country. Under no circumstances will I be a candidate for Vice President.”

I am not surprised that a great number of good Democrats are turning down the VP slot…  Usually it is just rhetoric, all of them say stuff like this when we all know it’s a lie, but this is a SERIOUS rejection of Obama’s overtures.

Why so strong Jim?  Reading the writing on the wall perhaps?

Ok, So I am supposed to trust Obama with SCOTUS appointments why?

One of the arguments I hear over and over about why we good Democrats must fall in line and keep McCain out of office is Roe v Wade and the SCOTUS appts…

I was thinking about it and can’t come up with a reason why I should trust Obama with the SCOTUS appts….

1. He wanted to support Roberts’ nomination to Chief Justice, and actually admonished Dems for their filibuster. He only changed his mind when a staffer reminded him that he was not making a smart political decision. A STAFFER had to tell him not to vote for ROBERTS… seriously.

2. He agrees with Scalia on Gun Control.

3. He agrees with Scalia on Campaign Finance.

4. He agrees with Scalia on Death Penalty for Child Molesters.

5. He agrees with Scalia on Late Term Abortions.

6. He agrees with Scalia on FISA.

7.  While in law school, Obama did much of the research and analysis, and probably much of the writing as well, for an article by Professor Tribe called “Curvature in Constitutional Space.”  It basically sets forth a new legal theory of modern jurisprudence that would “update” the status quo and essentially decouple the judge from the restraints of the Constitution.  Huh?  No Constitutional guidance for SCOTUS?  Are you kidding?

Ok, so why am I supposed to trust this guy with SCOTUS appointments again?
